If you want to replace your injectors and other fuel system components, go ahead. Kerosene doesn't have nearly the needed amount of lubricity to safely run in these engines. It might have worked in older diesel engines, but I wouldn't trust it in these new engines, and I surely don't want to pay the 3-5K for new injectors.
Here's some information on diesel fuels I found. #1 diesel is kerosene and #2 diesel is heating oil. Of course you can't legally run heating oil in your truck, and I'm not sure it would have all the additives in it.
WHAT IS FUEL OIL?
Fuel oil is a general term for a number of
burnable liquids made from crude oil. Most
common is Fuel Oil No.1 (also called kerosene),
range oil, and jet fuel (JP5). Fuel oils 1-D and 2-
D are diesel fuels. Fuel oil No. 2 is home heating
oil, and fuel oil No. 4 is a diesel fuel for boats.
All fuel oil mixtures have similar chemical and
physical properties.
I run about 3 gallon of kero per tank in the winter when the temps are below 30f. I h ave been also using kero in my backhoe for years without incident in the winter also. The only reason I run it is to discourage gelling.
When I lived in Connecticut I always added Standyne Performance Formula in the winter. I had no problems down to the coldest temps I ever encountered of -10, which happened to be in PA.
