There are several here running the powermax. You'll probably need to get your tunes adjusted a bit to help with spool and/or get your FICM tuned

X2
I did both and love my Powermax.
Nice boost of power, lower EGT's, and a SWEET sound.

Is anyone running one without studs? My turbo started sticking a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to take it in the next time it throws a code... hopefully it just needs to be cleaned, but if it needs to be replaced, I was thinking of going with a powermax since I plan on keeping this truck for a loooong time, and the price is only slightly higher than stock.

Non-studded is fine. For the powermax, try Clay@RiffRaff (site sponsor). He's cheaper than a stock turbo IIRC.

That is what I was hoping you'd say! I still have my fingers crossed that all mine needs is a cleaning, but it might still be cheaper to buy a new turbo and find someone in the area to help me install it than it would be to have the dealer pull mine apart and clean it (I'm not interested in doing that myself).

how is the lag vs. a stock turbo? I've read on other forums where a Powermax isn't a good combo with a stock truck. Basically have to overfuel the crap out of it to prevent enormous lag...that in turn leads to nothing but black smoke at low rpms

I've read that with FICM tuning (I'm on the list for the remote programmer) and the right tune, it isn't an issue.

If you're looking mainly at price, keep in mind that you will need a programmer and a tune with the Powermax or else you will have quite a bit of turbo lag.

I didn't have any really noticeable additional lag, but my 4.30 gears could be making up for that. Without a tune, it drove very much like the stock turbo.

I guess that's what I get for doing something else with the reply window open and not refreshing to see what had been posted in the meantime.

It happens!!

I'm already running custom tunes from Gearhead and contacted Matt earlier today to see about getting them re-written. He said he only needs to tweak them a bit and can do so for less than new tunes cost.

Most of me (my wallet) is hoping that my current turbo is fine and just needs a little TLC, but part of me wouldn't mind putting this new turbo on and feeling the benefits.
