Ever hear that LNG turns to a gaseous state when exposed to the atmosphere?
I'll try to explain how the catalytic process works in GDiesel (as explained to me by an engineer). The diesel fuel in the catalytic unit is heated to about 300 degrees and about 10 psi and diesel vapors form in the unit. There are four metallic catalysts in the unit which causes the diesel fuel vapor to break apart and attach the carbon and hydrogen molecules of the natural gas. Then the resultant vapor is cooled to form GDiesel. So the process occurs with the D2 and the methane in vapor states, not liquid. Here is a page of the patent application which basically tells the process (w/o too much detail).
I sent an email yesterday about GDiesel availability in AZ and got this response.
Hi Robin,
I’m Jon Ramer, Vice President of Advanced Refining Concepts. Thanks for inquiring about GDiesel in Arizona. Unfortunately, GDiesel is not available anywhere in Arizona as of March of 2012. However, we are currently going through the permitting process with the State of Arizona government to be granted an import license to bring the fuel into the state. Even better, we are also negotiating for land to construct a GDiesel refinery in Phoenix, which will open up most of the state for internal distribution. We are hoping to have the Phoenix plant open sometime in early 2013. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
I went back wednesday to check the pump and it was NOT the new Gdiesel. I am not sure, but it is definitely clear. The local electric company trucks were filling up that morning I guess because some of the municipaities have contracts with Kangaroo. Anyway with the big electric truck pumping and me pumping...I was getting a whopping 2.8 gallons a minute....at least at 3.89 a gallon it was about 15 cents cheaper per gallon than the stations in the Charleston area. For now anyway the 2 drums are full and we are ready for Salem and Talladega next month. I guess if it is good enough for them the Cat will like it too!
