Clear diesel

Hello everyone...Just a quick catch up on my vehicle. I sold my 2002 F350 and miss it terribly every day. I am now driving a 1997 38 foot Holiday Rambler motorhome with a 275 horse Cat 3126 inline 6 and I still use the Grey bottles of the diesel kleen. Diesel here in South Carolina has gone to up beyond $4 a gallon. Well my gas buddy app let me know about a Kangaroo here that had diesel for $3.82...I stopped yesterday AND today to pick up 25 or so gallons for the motorhome and I noticed that this batch was clear. No green tint at all. Since I sold the F350 a little over a year and a half ago, I really haven't paid any attention to the diesel when I get it out on the road, but this time, putting it into 5 gallon jugs to dump into a 55 gallon drum, I noticed that this was clear as water. It smelled and felt like diesel with no green tint....is this what is becoming the new normal or was the green the winter blend? Thanks for any input..Dave

What is "G-Diesel" and why does the price of Bio-Diesel vary from cheaper than dino to more than dino in different places.....my local place charges almost 20 cents MORE per gallon for bio........I won't buy it-less mileage and more expensive!

From what I remember reading, G-Diesel is basically a mixture of regular diesel fuel and Natural Gas. It's more potent and should deliver better fuel economy and power.

Back in the heyday of the 7.3 (late 1999 on) we had low sulfur diesel fuel that had 500ppm of the good stuff. Out trucks got good fuel economy and made good power. With the advent of ULSD, power and fuel economy suffered with the fuel being "drier" and having less energy than it did before.

G-Diesel fixes the problem by meeting you in the middle: you get the good power and fuel economy of Low Sulfur diesel with the cleanliness of ULSD.

Ok, I don't claim to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but how do you get a liquid (diesel) to mix with a gaseous product (NG)??

Splainify please.

Ever hear of an LNG Plant?

LNG standing for "Liquified Natural Gas"

The process to combine the natural gas with the D2 is a catalytic process with zero-waste discharge. If you want to read more about the process, go to their website.

As far as fuel mileage with GDiesel, after using it almost exclusively since September 2011 and with 7 years of fueling records...nada, no significant difference at all in fuel mileage (both in my 7.3 and the heavy trucks I drive). The natural gas has a btu/gal content of roughly 43% of D2 and the catalytic process causes the volume of D2 to increase by about 10%. Due to the GDiesel process, the GDiesel does burn cleaner and somewhat more efficiently...but that gain is offset by the lower btu content of methane and the D2 density loss due to the catalytic process.

I travel the west on a regular basis (weekly) and have never seen GDiesel anywhere other than in Nevada. Not saying it couldn't be somewhere else, just that I haven't seen it anywhere else. Here are the places I know that sell GDiesel...

Lakeside Shell – 3650 Lakeside Dr., Reno,NV 89509
Sinclair – 11 E.Victorian Ave., Sparks,NV 89431
Super Buy Market –5200 Sun Valley Blvd., Sun Valley, NV 89433
CitiMart - 1000 S. Virginia St.,Reno, NV 89502
Cowboys Corner - 1603 US Hwy. 395 N, Minden, NV 89410
Dad's Quik Mart - 5212 Sparks Blvd, Sparks, NV 89436
Pacific Gasoline - 1479 US Hwy 395 N.,Gardenerville, NV 89410
McCarran Mart - 187 E. Greg St. (Corner of Greg and McCarran) Sparks, NV 89431
Mustang Market - 12155 I-80 East, Sparks, NV 89434
AM/PM - 4340 N. Carson St.,Carson City, NV 89703
Quick Mart - 501 West 4th Street, Reno, NV 89509
Taylor Street Gas -1325 S. Taylor St., Fallon, NV
Victorian Mart -1675 Victorian Ave., Sparks, NV 89434

Hope this helps...

Greg,

Is G-diesel available in the valley?

Does the sticker simply say G-diesel?

I have not seen it here yet. I thought there was a refinery planned for the Phoenix area but I have no idea if they broke ground yet. Some of our trucks have tried G-Diesel when refueling in the Sparks NV area. I wanted to send some to the lab for analysis but it was already mixed with traditional diesel in the tank. It looked fairly clear though...trucks seem to run fine without any noticeable loss of power or mileage.

The diesel fuel sold in California is clear as described above. It is low efficiency fuel.
When my flatbed gets 13, even 14 mpg on diesel from central states, it gets 11 or less on CA diesel.
Bio diesel usually is pretty yellowish and thick, while you can tell different exhaust smell right away (french fries anyone?). Occasionally I fill up G-diesel in Nevada. It is good fuel and pretty clear as well. I remember diesel sold in some states, I think Illinois that is dark yellow and pretty thick. Never have seen green one.
