I have an 04 f-150 extended cab. I have a leak around the cargo light. Pulled the light out and the gasket/seal is shot. Have been on the web and can't seem to find the seal. Have checked with NAPA,LMC and local Ford dealership and can't find the gasket. They all want to sell the whole light assembly. Anyone out there know where I can buy just the gasket??
from what I have read on this forum there is no replacement gasket and the answer that has been given to others is to use a high quality clear siliconeon the light
John
Ford did away with the gasket a few years back when they corrected the issue and now all you can do is get a whole light assembly. I got the whole light but that was because I also wanted to upgrade my tail lights to LED's so it was a package deal.
You'll have to find some like material and fabricate your own gasket if that's the route you choose. That is what I would do. I won't pop for a complete new light assembly if all I need is a gasket. Just remember, if Ford was buying just gaskets from a supplier, the material is out there to make your own.
OK,thanks guys. If I can't buy a gasket I'll come up with something to stop it from leaking. Was thinking about doing the LED so this may be a good time to do it.
You can get a nice third brake light off Ebay for about $32 and its a combo of LED and standard bulb. I did this for mine and it was simple plug and play and have had no issue with CC after the install. I also replaced my rear tails at the same time with LED's and again it was a simple plug and play type of thing. That was about 6 months ago now.
2004-2008 Ford uses resistance in the brake lights to disengage the Cruise. People who have installed LED's have found they need resistance. Also those who added a flasher from autozone had less problems with the Led bulbs. Believe the semiconductor device in the cluster uses vehicle speed sensor to control the throttle body. It is a semiconductor thing, not switches. If you instal the flasher you will also notice the blink is at a more normal speed. Without the changes many have found the cruise did not work at all. Just buying bulbs not recommended unless the semi conductor flasher unit is also installed, and rear tail light assemblies designed with LED's are best. If Using just the bulbs be prepaired.
