Cargo light gasket

Does anyone know of a source for the cargo light gasket on 80-86 trucks? Mine is cracking and breaking apart from its age but the lens is still in excellent condition. LMC shows the complete lens assembly but it doesn't specify if it includes the gasket and I can't find the gasket listed separately anywhere.

Found one listed for 77-79. Looks similar to the 80-86.

Part numbers for the cargo light between 77-79 and 80-86 are the same except the decade and year codes:

77-79 D7T2-15550-A
80-86 E2T2-15550-A

from the Dennis Carpenter website.

Maybe the 77-79 gasket fits both?

I don't know. LMC lists different part numbers for the 77-79 lens assembly and the 80-86 so I doubt they are the same.

Might be wise to call them for clarification before buying. They do have a couple phone numbers. I noticed that my gasket is getting cracked too and I was thinking a few days before you posted that I needed to replace mine. I'm going to call them soon myself. Last thing I want is a water leak back there and stained head liner! If you happen to call them or find another source post it here. I'll do the same.

LMC shows the same part number on the light assembly for the 83-92 Ranger as the 80-86 F series trucks, but I can't find a gasket listed separately for those either. Let me know what you find out.

I'll call on Monday...see what they have for us. Have you taken your cargo light apart yet? If so do the wires enter the cab through a boot or are they sealed in some way or is the gasket the only line of defense for water intrusion? I haven't taken mine apart yet...figuring to let sleeping dogs lie till I have a gasket in my hands.

I thought the roof in that area are 2 different panels?
If the outer one has the light with gasket and the gasket was to fail water would get between the 2 panels and start to rust from the inside out.
It could rust both panels so you could see rust bubbles starting on the inside where the 2 panels meet up.

I haven't touched mine for fear of making it worse. Its been years since I had it apart last but as I remember there is no rubber boot inside...its an open hole behind the light so the gasket is the only seal.

I am not very picky when it comes to my truck, when my cargo light gasket went bad I just made one out of the self stick weatherstripping foam you can get at the hardware stores. Worked fine all the years I had it, and I agree, sealing this area is important to stop rust out down in the lower parts of the cab.

I believe you are correct that the cab is doubled in all the corners and in the area of the cargo light. So far no signs of rust in the cargo light area. I hope the gasket is intact below the cracked exterior. Hopefully we can find a source for the gaskets. I was thinking of sealing the cracks with some liquid silicone sealer as a stop gap. I'd rather locate a gasket.

I'm open to making a gasket and have thought about that. An original molded gasket would be nice. Might make one from a strip of neoprene if the gasket is hard to get.

Called Dennis Carpenter about the gasket pad. The 70-79 pads are not the same as the 80-86. You're gonna have to buy the whole light kit to get the gasket from them.

Bummer. LMC is about half the price on the light assembly but I don't know if the gasket is included with theirs.
