Another (possible) fuel leak question

Hi,

The other recent fuel leak thread reminded me that I had been meaning to ask this question. Back when it was cooler (been over 70 for a week or so) I could smell diesel when the truck was running. I looked all around the area where you do the blue spring mod and I (carefully) tightened anything that looked like a fuel line connection. I also looked around under the drivers side door (sorry, I am another one that can't remember what things are called) and didn't see anything although I now realize I should have looked with the truck running (last fall when the truck was in the shop I asked them to drain any water that might be there which now makes me suspicious that they forgot to tighten something).

Now that the weather is warmer I don't smell the diesel. When I was smelling it it seemed stronger with the defroster on, less strong with the heat on.

I am scared as hell to ask but anyone have any ideas? The truck is running and pulling great. Thanks!

Are you sure it's not exhaust?

Sometimes the diesel drip is very hard to see. All you have to do is key on (not start) to pressure up the system for 30 seconds (better/more pressure) and check below where the lines all bolt together for the drip.

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by the exhaust question. Are you saying there could be unburned diesel in the exhaust? If that is what you meant then why does the warmer weather seem to stop it?

I will try the key on step you mention. Do I understand you correctly that fuel pressure is maintained for 30 seconds at key on thus meaning I need someone's help to do multiple key on sequences?

Sorry, I am an electronics tech and mechanical things are a challenge for me.

Thanks for your time.
