4x4 problem

4x4 problem
Ok here is what I have going on.
I had to help the wife this morning (the snow storm of the winter).
I locked the hubs in and when I needed my 4x4 I switched over.
As soon as I kicked the 4x in the front of the truck started jumping from
side to side and it sounded/felt like the front wheels were dragging
and skipping.
What in the world could cause this ?
99 f250 SD w/6" lift, super charged, 3" pipes
