300 i6 with a c4. Wanted the $80 lokar cable but I'm a cheap SOB. The c6 cables are $40. Then I found gearhead enterprises had a knockoff of the lokar cable. So I bought the c6 knockoff for $29.
Took a little thought, but got it installed in about an hour.
WOW! This thing runs like a sportscar compared to where it was. If anybody says you don't need the kick down they live in a place with no hills.
I got the lokar for the C6 and I'm still not happy with my placement on the transmission. I'm glad you found a cheaper one. I wish I had read this before I bought mine.
I remember the first time I passed someone on a two lane road after I had hooked mine up for the first time. I have a pretty much stock 302, but when I got on it to go around them and that sucker kicked down and took off. I was like Oh $**t, never had it do that before, I loved it. LOL
So does changing out the kickdown rod for the cable make a big difference. might never kicks in when Im trying to pass someone or going up a hill and Im always messing with it trying to get it set up right, but I cant get it adjusted right. some times it kicks in, but most of the time not, when it does it feels like a completely different truck.
I have a cable from Lokar. fit perfect, easy to adjust. I can't speak for the kickdown rod as I never had one due to my header usage. If you can adjust it and there are no clearance issues it should work just as well.
