The other night some buddies and I were on our way home from the ranch at about 10:30. I wasn't driving my rig, instead i was in my dads F150. It was raining out and the truck had bald tires...bad mix, you see where its going. Being dumb, i took the turn too fast...the rear end slid out, and took it nose first into a concrete barrier.
Luckily, we were all okay. The F150, not so lucky. Bumper, headlights, core support, tranny cooler, fender, all toast.
So as of now, im waiting to see what the insurance says. Since I havent had my license a full year (11 months, 26 days) theres a chance that i could lose my license and be dropped by my insurance since one of the provisions is there can be no accidents within the first year. So i guess we'll see if ill be driving my rig for a while...
whoa. why would you lose your insurance and your license for getting into a wreck? are you 16 or something? i just don't understand. what state do you live in? not trying to get into your business but just wondering
i agree, as a former claims adjuster and third year law student, if you are given any kind of trouble- it's worth hiring a lawyer to deal with this for you. just my 2cents
sadly i think there are new laws in place for first time "drivers" i remember yrs ago(10) when i got my DL, the yr after that they were even starting to crack down on just getting a speeding ticket gets you probabtion for x amount of time... i dont know all the rules obviously! but sadly we are becoming a policed state/nation... any ways to the OP best of luck, maybe since you technically wont be "charged" with the inccident till after your 1 yr is up, maybe you'll squeak by..
is defuring an option in this instance?
if he did, sounds like a contestable reckless driving citation. any decent traffic attorney could get it dismissed for him. they just take control of it and negotiate with the ADA. they have working relationships with these guys and just send a whole bunch of citations to them and get you to pay a small fine and then it is usually dismissed. its pretty cheap too- usually pay the attorney 80 bucks or so plus the fine. anytime you get another traffic citation while being on probation for a previous one, they are usually able to get it dismissed anyways. you would be surprised how much pull these guys have, considering they do so much business with the city.in this situation, i would def. have an attorney take care of it. saves you a trip to the municipal court anyways. at the end of the day, the city will take more money over suspending your license, etc, as long as you have the right people pulling strings.
That sucks man. Glad to here your ok.
If you get in a single car wreck here and wasn't drinking and didnt caused property damage they will not wright you a ticket
Thanks guys, ill try and clear up some info. I found out that had another vehicle or person been involved and i was at fault, i could have lost my lisence as it was within that 1 year. But since it was just me, and there was no accident report or fault found or anything, im in the clear (except for my insurance going up a little lol)

Im still 17, although if you met me you wouldnt know lol! And i live in The Peoples Republic of Kalifornia....their laws here say that if its within your first year, and you have an accident or x amount of tickets tickets you can lose the lisence. But since it was just me and no fault found, im clear

My question is why did you tell your insurance company you had an accident? Did you have full coverage? Then I might understand if the truck had enough value.
Parents insisted. I dont know why either man! My buddy who was with me works at the body shop his cousin owns. We could have gotten the parts from LMC truck or something and had him do the work super cheap. But, they chose to go to insurance.

My first thought was I was sad for you that your parents made you turn it in to insurance. I wouldn't have, but thinking about it I really think they did the best thing for you. Now I don't think you screwed up real bad but I think most of the time this type of thing can be avoided and usually is just a learning experience. Young drivers have a tendency to think they are invincible and it couldn't happen to them. Don't even ask how I know this. It's real easy for a parent to think their children can to no wrong, I know that because my parents were like that, and I was too with my children. This is hindsight for me but myself and my siblings and my children would have learned sooner from their mistakes if we had been held more accountable, instead of letting mom and dad bail them out of their problems. With you having to pay a little more for insurance will most likely be better for you in the long run, it will teach you that you are responsible for your actions. Its called tough love and most of the time it works. Count your blessings that no one was injured and it wasn't another car that you hit. I''m truly sorry about you situation but this could become a very positive experience for you if you let it, you are very young and can learn a lot from this experience. Please don't take this as a lecture I am only sharing some things I have learned.
