I'm in the process of purchasing new tires for my trailer. I'd like to go with LT tires, but that will require larger 16" rims which makes the entire purchase very expensive. I'm also considering going with a 10-ply ST tire in the same size of my current 8-ply tires.
Knowing the 10-ply tires run at 80psi, I pulled one of my aluminum rims off yesterday to look at the max pressure capacity. It didn't have any pressure ratings stamped, but did have "Max Load 5H/2,150lbs (or) 6H/2,540lbs"
Does anyone know what the "5H" or "6H" means? My rims are six-lug and the 2,540lbs rating matches my current tires. My guess is it refers to the load capacity based upon the number of lug holes. Am I right???
I'm also guessing that since my rim is the higher of the two capacities, it probably isn't rated for this higher pressures associated with the 10-ply tire.
I have the same issue, I went with Maxxis ST tires Load range E, they have served me well after 2 years and about 12,000 miles. If I could get 16's under mine I would, but no room especially traveling with expansion and centrifical force. I went with Maxxis as other forums said either neutral or good things. Do not get any of the China bombs. Google around and you will find which brands are made in China. There are American brands made in China so beware. I went to Discount Tire and for the set of 4 mounted balanced for less than $600 for 225x15x75's E's. It does say on the side of the tires Max Speed 65 mph. I follow that that to the T......
Maxxis tires are the only ones I'll be putting on my trailer if I stick with ST tires. I've done a lot of research on tires and understand the failures that are common in the industry. They seem to be the only brand making decent tires these days, but aren't they made in China too?
I'm going higher than usual on my tires for an increased safety factor, which is why I'm wanting to stick with 8-ply.

Actually not, they are made in Thailand. I researched and researched until I took the plung on the Maxxis. I do keep the pressures at 80 and check them regularly.
