1991 speedometer drive gear

I just put a M5OD 4x4 transmission and transfer case in a 73 f100 and the speedometer wasnt working after i got a new cable and i determined that the drive gear(the one inside the t-case) was bad. I could see that in the center where the driven gear contacts was work down so far that they wouldn't make contact. How do i go about replacing it? do i half to split open the t-case? And where do i get the gear from? I tried my local Napa, both advances and auto-zone and no one could come up with one or even a part number for me. Or would it be worth it to just take it to a shop and let them deal with it? Thanks in advance, Jon.

If this helps at all these are the numbers off the tag on the transfercase: F0992 1345-39 103916 E9TA-KG.
