xj's ginormous list of "what goes here?" and "what is this?"

So I'm looking at the truck today, and I realize I've got a pretty decent amount of questions, most small enough not to warrant their own threads. So If you happen to have an answer to one of the questions, I'd love an answer! I'll number every question so it helps if answering a question. Everything motor related is from an '82 carbed 302, everything tranny related is from a c6 4x4.

1: What are these two things? On the stock intake manifold, one is right above the thermostat housing, and the other has a very small threaded stud on it?

2: What are these puppies? They were removed from the back side of the intake manifold

3: I'd assume the things from question 1 will go into the green spots. But what about the others? 3 things came from that area of the stock manifold, the things from question 2 and then a metal vacuum port (which is stuck in the stock manifold still)

4: What goes here? This is the drivers side of the timing cover.

5: Is this the timing pointer?

6: So this is the kickdown and manual shift on the tranny. The questions is.....I don't have a damn clue what I'm doing here. The shop manual doesn't really explain what type of linkage I'll need. Does anyone have a diagram of what linkage I will need to hook this c6 up to the 302 and the cab? I've got a slightly curved metal rod that has a groove cut all the way through it (kind of reminds me of a hockey stick), and then all the edelbrock stuff for the carb side of it.

7:Just in front of the kickdown lever are these two bolts. Both are loosely installed and it looks like something may bolt underneath them?

8: What goes here? Its the front passenger side of the c6, and is threaded I believe

9: This is about top center on the passenger side of the tranny. It had a crude crimped metal cap that looked like the trans shop put on to keep things out

10: What is this guy? towards the back of the passenger side of the c6, looks like possibly a trans cooler line?

11: I love the stuff from JBG, but man do they need to include some type of directions. First picture won't allow the sliding retainer to fit in there, and the bracket in the second picture I don't have a clue where it goes.

pic 1 temp sender for gauge and heater hose
pic 2 some kind of coolant temp operated vacuum switches( i think at least 1 is for recerculating gas tank vapors.
pic 3 you are correct, the mystery vac port in the old intake is for the brake booster line
pic 4 fuel pump
pic 5 nope, looks like anaccesory bracket or maybe after market trans linkage bracket
pic 6 the kick down rod should go from the kick down arm to the throttle linkage
pic 7 i think is where your tans shift linkage braket bolts to
pic 8 dont worry about
pic 9 maybe where the dipstick tube bolts?
pic 10 yes
heres a pic that may help its of my 6.9/c-6 combo
My kickdown rod is unhooked cuz i dont need it, but you can see how the shift arm comes down and the pivot bracket that is held on by the 2 bolts in pic 5

#1 heater hose and temp sensor
#2 I forget right now
#3 Plug the ones you don't use
#4 Fuel pump location
#5 Throttle bracket - your new intake should've come with a gold colored triangular bracket. Use that to adapt from the intake to the existing bracket.
#6 The rod you have attaches to the kick-down lever on the trans. The slot is for adjusting
#7 84-6.9L just reminded me - trans shifter bracket mount
#8 nothing goes there
#9 Breather for trans
#10 Hook up for trans line
#11 Looks like the manufacturer didn't spec the correct depth, so they include a mount that works

man, you guys are good. So on # 3, I've got the black and blue switches, plus the brake booster vacuum port, but only 2 spots on the back side of the manifold. What should I do? As far as the trans linkage, I've got a decent mental picture now. So what connects to the manual shift arm?

11 is a generic brake line tab. When routing your brake lines these can be installed wherever you need it. The big hole is for the fitting to go into and the sprink clip then slips on to keep it retained. The other end has a small hole to be bolted where needed. They can aslo be welded on.

For the vacuum switches...those need to go into the coolant...not the vacuum ports. Those open or close based on the temperature of the coolant and port or close off vacuum to various places. EGR would use one of them and a lot of vacuum advances used them to advance the timing when the engine was warm but not when cold...or vice versa.

If you're not hooking any emissions stuff up you probably won't need any of the switches...I do not use them on my 460.

I've included a picture of a "vacuum tree" you can install that will give you mulitple points to connect to. I have my vacuum booster and transmission hooked to it. Although this is not the most ideal place to hook the tranny vacuum booster to. notice both of your vacuum ports are on the runners and will see runner vacuum and not overall intake plenum vacuum. When hooked to a runner you can get pulsations that may effect the tranmission shifting.

should have explained a little more in previous picture. The "vacuum tree" is on the back of the manifold and is blue. Basically threads into one port and branches out for multiple vacuum sources.

In this picture is one of the brake line tabs...this one is on my 12 bolt going into my Nova and is welded on. They make them to bolt on (like yours) or even strap on with a clamp.

For hooking up your booster and or trans modulator line, check your carb or carb spacer plate, they may have provisions for a vacuum hook up. The weiland street warrior intake we just put on my buddies 84 302 had all the vac ports nessesary but there were no provisions for the coolant switches. None of the emissions stuff was put back on because more then half of it was either missing or didn't work. If you put your emissions stuff back on you have to put it all on because it is a system designed to work together, its kind of an all or none affair.

Thanks for the replies guys! So on the tranny, where does the vacuum line go? I think I remember pulling one off the top drivers side somewhere? Also, what about the speedo gear?

If it's a C6, it's all the way on the back passenger side, facing backward. will be right over the crossmember when installed. vacuum line goes to the vacuum modulator. Will be a small canister looking thing on the back of the tranny. Some are threaded in but I think most are a push in type with a retaining clip and bolt...much like the speedo gear...whick will be in the same proximity but on the drivers side.

not a great picture but hope it helps.

This is the passenger side of my C6

2 red lines are the tranmission lines that go to the cooler

Green line on top is the vacuum line. I clips into a bracket on the side of the tranny. It is a rigid line for most of the way and routs up around the bellhousing into the engine bay...close to where the tranny dip stick is. You then connect on both ends with flexible vacuum hose.
