2006 DPFE EGR testing

Hey all, I have a 2006 with the 4.2 V6 (bought recently with 90k miles) and I have noticed that it starts roughly and idles a bit roughly. I replaced plugs, wires, fuel filter, PCV, still same. I am trying to test the EGR valve, but the cx-2061 module in my truck is different than the systems i see others post about. it has a vacuum line from the manifold, and then an orange and red tube coming from I'm not sure where(but not from the egr pipe as I would have thought.

the red and orange tubes should be the DPFE lines right? they both have full manifold vacuum as the truck idles though, which to me means that the egr valve is open at idle right? and that the egr tube to exhaust manifold passage may be blocked? am I on the right track here?
Thanks,
Louie

Ok, finally found some info

So, it seems what I should have been searching for is EGR System Module (ESM). Found some really good info here:

D-tips

Seems the ESM is a little different from the traditional DPFE, and if I understand what I am dealing with, it makes sense that the two plastic tubes are pulling vacuum at idle. It seems the way to test the module is to electronically open the vacuum solenoid. Too bad I already ordered a new ESM

Well, solo threadin' here, but I will put this out there since there doesn't seem to be much info about these out there. I replaced the ESM (you need a 1 1/16" wrench and some PB blaster for the EGR hose fitting, it is a BEAR), and I am able to bench test the old ESM now. I believe the two plastic hoses are just vacuum lines. The bottom one goes to the sensor, and the top goes to the EVR to operate the valve. The metal tube coming off the base of the ESM with the hose on it is the other sensor line (it seems to me that if you pull the hose off here, it might be a good place to run some seafoam as it draws along the egr path in the intake manifold).

to test it, i just applied 12v (using a power drill battery) to pins 1 and 4 to open the EVR and then put vacuum on the top port. about 5 InHg seems to fully open the valve. Without using a piercing probe or safety pin, I would think this would be an easy way to test an ESM system like this in the car, just unplug the connector, use small alligator jumpers to the pins, and you can electronically open the the EVR and therefore the EGR valve.
