hi to anyone that can help and i needed it bad. truck is 1986 f-150 that looks like it has had a 5.0 mustang motor in it. problem i have is the wiring. i am having problems with getting power to the frame mounted fuel pump and to the coil. i have run a test wire to fuel pump from battery and coil but if i leave them fuel pump runs constantly and floods out motor and i dont want to burn the coil up add to the fact there are 5 wires running to each part and all are dead . any help would be appercated also if someone has the full wire diagram for the truck i am willing to rewire.
the motor is out of a 89 stang i tracked that down thats why i posted here its also a frankinstien of 86 an 87 truck also 89 motor so thats why i posted here for help
yes thats where i found the dual serial numbers spent 4 hours at a local dealer trying to track it down on friday did find out it didn't come with a stang 5.0 but with 351w injected so whoever had before me swapped a stang motor 302/5.0 in to it but they said the wiring plan should be the same but they couldn't find the plan for the truck. if i had the original plan it would be a good starting point. i am thinking painless wiring to just replace it all. thank you all for any help and guidence that can be given
the comp doesnt have any markings on it the dealer couldnt find any either but i took it to a computer guy to see if he could pull the vehicle code for me should know in a few days if it was the stang or one of the truck comps
meanwhile do you still have coil N pump hot wired? its sitten right.
anyway do hou have a wiring diagrahm. for your model? whatever wires worked originally wont run the coil? cuaz i would think they would.
I had a dogturd stationwagon once. pump no juice. hotwired it to my windshield wiper relay, juiced it when it bogged. worked till i got in traffic coulnt tell too much or too little. caut on fire somehow. got out walked away as it burned.
man but what a story.
Im probably wrong but I dont think knowing the computer will be any help.
they send signals based on everthing else. itll take whatever info and signal pump as it would any other time since its al variable.
or maybe i misunderstood question.
Have you shot the grounds to make sure they are working properly. The thing I have noticed is that over time the grounds need to be cleaned. I was struggling with my truck on why it was draining the battery all the time. I talked to my bro (the mechanic) he said clean the grounds that the system uses and try it again. Sure enough good to go. Not quite sure if this is what you are looking for. They are pretty much the same either way so should not be to much of an issue between the motors. Get a Haynes or Chilton and start shooting one wire at a time in the diagram. Also check the main bus panel on the left fender near the master cylinder. There is a fuse in there that is just for the fuel pump. If you have a bad frame ground it will blow that fuse when electric is applied. I learned this by grounding my stereo to the frame. Keep me informed I will keep a look out on this link. Hope this helps a little.
