sorry for the slow response, im also working on my rig.
so i looked at my dist. completely forgot i have a mallory setup. going over to my neighbors to get some film of a stock dist. real qiuck.
nope...if i turn it upside down the pin doesnt even grab it and the teeth are lower than the magnet.
you are seeing the old one put back on there but the new one is the same..they both stop there..
I think i need to take the pin out to get it to seat ..then push the pin in...
I have seen a couple threads that talk about being careful not to lose that pin ..
so it must come out easy????
i have a distributor to pick up in the morning at autozone for 40$$
I am hopin to solve this before then,,,,
some more pics ...
maybe you can see what i see..
it looks like the pin got pushed down to far and is sitting crooked...
im not sure where it was to begin with though....but..it doesnt look right
[/IMG]
does anyone know why that rubber piece is sitting too high?
[/IMG]
pin is not seated correctly...???i never took it out but it looks like it might be down farther than it should be causing the to not rotate...ouch...
Autozone just called...let you know how it goes...
picking up a new remanufactured one.
Well now you know why the armature wouldn't seat all the way down. You drove the pin down into the bushing. Only fix is to remove the gear, force the shaft out, clean up the gouge in the bushing and start over.
You might get lucky and the pin will move out with the shaft. Otherwise you might try using vice-grips to hold it to the shaft while pushing the shaft out. This way you wouldn't damage the shaft more. Not too tight, just enought clamping force to hold the pin in place.
Keep in mind that sometimes it's not easy to r/r the drive gear. Mark the gear in relation to the shaft for re-installation.
Good thing you have another dist coming; it's going to take some time to fix this one.
okay...new distributor in and wah lah..she started...
but........
now it wont run good. it isnt firing even close...i move the dist. around a bit while running and i cant get it to run decent at all.
it will start and act like no compression and it quits when i try giving it gas....
anyone????
well. I have been thinking...uh oh....
I must have missed a cog or something when installing.
so..
Does this mean i need to take it out again and find tdc?
firing order is good.all the wires and plugs are connected..
im not sure how to do this.
I am going to research now but,can someone explain how to find tdc and do i leave the distributor in to find tdc??
Leave distributor in. Pull #1 plug and place finger over hole or use compression gauge. Rotate engine by hand till pressure pushes against your finger, this is the compression stroke. Rotate till timing marks say TDC and rotor should be pointing to #1 plug wire on distributor cap if correct. About 1-2 o-clock, vacuum canister will be about 6 o-clock.
alright...
its running.
It started making a howling noise so i shut it down.
something dint seem right.
ran really good but i thought maybe the oil pump shaft dint connect right because of this howling...
how do i know for sure?
