I have a E350 van, 1986 6.9 and when it sits for a few days I have to crank and crank to get it started. Glow plugs and relay are great, any ideas? Thanks, its been doing this for a long time but i am going to finally fix this thing once and for all..Chet

Sounds like an air intrusion problem. You can verify by removing fuel filter before trying to start it, if filter is not full then fuel has drained back.
If you have the stock water seperator canister the first thing to do is either plug the end of the rubber drain or bypass the canister.
Next thing to look at would be the little rubber fuel return lines along the top of the injectors, they deteriorate over time, new return line kits are available if needed.

I'm betting you are having air intrusion problems. Air is getting into the fuel system, letting the fuel drain back to the tank. Before you start it after it has sat for a while, take the fuel filter off and see if it is full to the top. If it is half full you have air intrusion. The most common place is the return lines, o-rings caps on the injectors. An injector install kit supplies all things to replace all of the things I listed. The factory water separater drain would be a good place to check first. If you still have the water separater, shove a bolt into the drain hose, and hose clamp it in.

Thanks lazy K and Tom. I'll take a real close look at these things. Where do I buy the Kit to repair these things. Is it a Ford only kit or auto zone. What is it called. Thanks again
Chet This has really been a problem. I'm surprised I haven't gone thur more starters. Only one to date and I bought this truck new. Also the fuel gauge hasn't worked since almost new. Do I have to drop the tanks to repair?

PM typefour. He's a member on here and sells a very quality kit, including the better quality o-rings. I used his kit to do my lines just a couple weeks ago. VERY good stuff!

Here's a thread I started that may help you: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...tructions.html

Drewdole, the fuel pump is mechanical on the side of the block. I think it just bleeds back the fuel. It also has a lack of power when going up slight hills. I got to get one thing at a time fixed. I use it for work.

What's the mileage on it? Lacking power just means it's do for a tune up.

Injectors and Injector Pump are generally 150k mile wear items.

Got a pic of this van?

I don't know how to post pictures but its an old 86 e350. Its a pipe van with ladder rack and bins inside. I do fire sprinklers. I'm just getting back on my feet. Have had cancer last five years and lots of treatments. Last time I checked, years ago they wanted $1000.oo for a injection pump. The van isn't worth much more. I was thinking more like maybe low pressure fuel or something for power. Could it be something like that. Its slow to take off on flats but gets up to speed.

The pump usually when it goes bad, it simply dies on you. Lack of power is definitely tired injectors and/or IP.

The IP it self is usually around 300-400$, but it's the labor that kills it.

Chet

U-Haul has good deals on them if theres any left.

Other than that, a Diesel fuel injection place, or IH dealer would have 'em.
