Heater Core

I have a 98 ford expedition XLT 4.6L, back in July I started smelling coolant and the windows was fogging up inside the truck, and the it over heated, I took it to my mechanic and he bypassed the heater core for me. but now its getting cold I need my heat. Now I had the heater core replace 2yr ago. Im shock to see it went out again, My question is should I have it power flushed real good to see if it lossen up anything in the core, or should I replace it again. Also do I have 2 heater core's or 1????

It's highly unlikely the heater core itself is leaking after only 2 years. I've seen the heater hose couplers leak and spray coolant towards and into the firewall openings the heater core tubes stick out of. I'd hook it back up and look for leaking at the couplers.

That's what im thinking of doing cause I cant see it going that fast unless the shop did a shady job on the heater core and the hoses too. , should I flush the heater core too. also do I have 2 heater core or 1...

You can flush it since you're taking it apart, but I wouldn't expect there to be any clogs after only 2 years. Before attempting to remove the heater core, first test it for leaks by pressurizing it and seeing if it holds pressure, or vacuum depending on how you test it. If it holds then the heater core isn't the source of the leak.

If you have the rear heat/air option you have 2 heater cores.

Interesting responses...stuff I wouldn't have thought of....When it gets hot here in N. Ca I'll mess with the bypass idea to see if it makes a difference!

thanks all!
