I've talked to several master mechanics that really like for people to use Amsoil in everything. They won't sell it, they just like people to use it. It's paid for several kid's college educations.
Read you loud and clear on that one...
The All-Knowing Master of Transmissions has spoken and to me this settles it...
You either use Mobil 1 Synthetic or you use a reputable brand that bears the Ford Approved Mercon V label.

An Engineer with a sense of humor. That in itself is hilarious. (I used to work with a bunch along with a bunch of PhD's.) x3 on Mobil fluids.
I used Castrol last go-around. This time I'll use Castrol Mercon V. Last time around I drained the pan and TC. I see there is a procedure to "pump" out the old fluid. I'll see about following that. But if I don't -- is the Mercon from before and the Mercon V from this time going to be a problem?
do any of you use the lucas transmission additive in your trucks? It really seems to have worked well in several commuter cars i have had in the past. i was thinking throwing it in with my next fluid change which is on the to do list
Nah, my first mixture was Castrol Domestic Multi-Vehicle with Castrol Merc V. My 2nd mixture was Castrol Domestic Multi with Motorcraft Merc V. The Motorcraft ATF prices $1/Qt less.
From what Mark is saying -- Merc V from any vendor should be OK.
