Got my sct tuner and I am getting ready to set up for some custom tunes
The question that I have is one option is for an engine brake option. I am not sure how this might work and what the risks might be in using this or how it might work without a jake installed.
I have an 05 excursion 6.0 fully stock-no stud egr mods etc.
Most tuners don't like to use, or really offer these tunes
It raises cylinder pressures, and places more load on trans. From the factory these trucks have a pretty good Tow/Haul
As with everything else, if you mess with it, it'll probably be fine......but? Engine brake tunes on a non-studded motor scare me...and I'm rocking a SRL on my non-studded
So is this just basically boosting the engine without fuel? Seems like that would cause a lean condition when jumping back on the throttle or is this working in some other way?
With my SCT I had both a towing with braking and towing without braking tune. I found the engine braking to be very annoying as you could not turn it off. Anytime you were off the throttle engine braking would engage. I found just the regular towing program to work fine. The Torqshift transmission when in tow/haul mode can do all the braking you need. I tow a 10500lb trailer in the mountains and have not found a need for anything more than the Torqshift braking and only need the brakes coming down a Mountain pass for drastic slow downs heading into a curve. The torqshift can hold back the load at about any speed you need. I am very happy with my 80hp towing program but do need to watch EGT on the mountain passes. If I try to lug the pass in fifth gear the EGT climbs. I have found forcing a downshift into 4th gear and then I can pull any pass (encountered so far) at the speed limit at around 1100 EGT. I do have ARP studs, a MBRP exhaust and other mods.
