I have a 92 f-350 xlt, crewcab 2wd.when i reach 70 mph the truck shakes very bad, however it does not happen at higher or lower speeds.the shocks on the truck were OE so i have replaced them with spring assist shocks and although it rides much better it now seems to shake even harder at 70 .i recently replaced the front tires and had the alignment checked and they found no wore out parts,so whats the problem ?tire balance, bad rims
p.s.the front bearings have been inspected and repacked and the rear bearings have been inspected
I've had the same problems with my '92 explorer and '86 b2, before I junked it. The '92 explorer does it above about 60-65 mph. I replaced tires and shocks, both not helping at all. I figured it was wheel bearings, but now that you said you inspected yours, im leaning towards bad rims. Anyone know anything about this?
I had the same problem with my 95 Lightning. Found the problem was the bolts that held the I-Beams to the frame. The front have bolts while the rear has rivets. Tighened the bolts and the problem went away!
I guess the very first thing I'd check would be lug nuts/and wheel position to see if something real obvious is there. Then I would look at the rims to see if there were any obvious bends. I once had a 1967 Plymouth wagon that the tires were out of balance, and the shaking was so bad over 50MPH that I had to do the same thing as you. It scared the hell out of me. The car also had bad tie rods, but I got a set of used front tires and had them balanced, and the "violent" shaking diminished to a slight wobble that was tolerable.
