Roof Paint

After reading about all the issues regarding paint on the roofs of Ford vehicles I went out to check mine recently. Sure enough, there were bubbles all along the drainage channels on both sides. I broke through one of the bubbles using my fingernail just to see if I could. I took it back today for the service manager to take a look at it and he took photos to send back to Ford so that they can direct the correct remedy. As a result I think and going to hold off installing my Peragon cover that came yesterday till they fix my roof. I don't want to risk blue pearl overspray on my new bed cover.

When did they start leaving that channel open? Didn't they have a rubber strip in that channel that was flush with the roof surface on the 2010's?

I'm doing the same thing today with my truck. Picked it up yesterday, and the first spot I checked when the salesman showed the truck was the roof. Sure enough, the bubbles are there. Was your truck built at Kansas City?

RyPow, can you post a picture?
I checked mine, and I did not see any issues. I would like to see how this looks like, if you don't mind.
Thanks!

Yes, mine was built in KC. I got a call back from my dealer today and Ford has instructed them to sand the whole roof down and start over to make sure everything sets correctly this time. Took less than 24 hours for the decision to come back and no fighting over the issue. So, I am taking it in Saturday morning so they can get started bright and early on Monday and picking up my loaner.

Thanks!
Most of the bubbles have the appearance of sand or "grit" under the paint. A couple of them were big enough (1/16" dia., more "bubble-like") that I actually popped one by accident while running my hand along the channel.

Apparently the seam sealer or caulk or whatever you want to call attracts crap at the factory before it dries and they get the paint on.

Mine was no accident, I popped one with my fingernail to see if I could.

Yeah, I agree, that looks pretty awful. Thanks for the pics.
I need to double check, but I am sure I don't have any of these up there. Mine was built in KC as well, on January 9th, 2012.

Is your truck a Dearborn build? I wonder if there is paint under the rubber seal...you could have the same bubbling issues that are hidden beneath. Seems odd that some 2012s would have the rubber and some don't.
