my motor has 228K on it and the oil pressure after about 20 mins of running drops off the chart so its time for a new power plant. so what do you guys think? itll be turning a set of 33s and pulling a single car hauler with a pro stock mustang on it a couple times a year. itll have long tube headers and a full dual exhaust either way. the truck currently has a 302 in it. and yes money is a factor. so im wondering if im better off with a built 302 or a slightly modded 351
300. Pull your house off its foundation and save on fuel. 302 is a pony car engine. 351 is nice but thirsty if you want it to do anything but toddle around at grandma's pace. Just another opinion for what its worth.
Yeah, my 300 does fine. I like to put some aftermarket stuff on it. I pull my Ford 3000 tractor and equipment on a 20' trailer. Steering is not so bad though people say I am a brave soul for doing it but it seems fine to me.
I also tow my 79 4x4 on it as well.
Wish I could get a lower first gear though in my M5OD

I wouldn't worry as much about the 300's ability to pull it, more the short wheelbase of the Bronco and tongue weight. BTW the ZF (S5-42) from an F-250 or bigger is a direct swap for the M5. 1st gear is 5.72:1 in the wide ratio units and 4.14:1 in the close ratio version.
But truly, wild2045, its your truck and ultimately you have to be happy with it. There are just options beyond your typical high-revving V8 and you should consider them as well before making a swap.
Sell the bronco and buy a long bed truck with the motor combo you want. the bronco really isnt a great rig for pulling and it sounds like your going to be doing that alot. Duals dont really work on the bronco due to the transfer case so your just wasting money there. and since we dont know what your bronco you have engine mods are limited by the efi system.
F250's with a 460 are crazy cheap now days and would make a much better choice. the mpg while towing would be the same as what you would get using the bronco with either motor mentioned above.
Are you using the factory gauge to measure the oil pressure? Mine does the same thing your talking about. After the engine gets hot and has cruised awhile, it shows no oil pressure.
I dont think theres anything wrong with the engine, just the oil pressure sending unit. Its easy to replace, i just havent done mine yet.
I have 190k on my 5.8l and i have no intention to replace it.
My money is its a simple sensor thats bad. If you lost oil pressure the truck would lock up quickly. And would start makeing noise even quicker.
Also the factory sending unit is actually just an On/Off switch. If it sees more than 7 psi pressure it goes to on, if it goes below 7 psi it goes off.
