Voltage Regulator Replacement?

I have the dash off and the instrument cluster out and was wondering if I should replace the Voltage Regulator that converts the 12v to 6v, right?
They are like $30 BUT since it is already out I think it is a good idea to go ahead and replace it, especially since it has been in there since 81.

I am not sure if you really have to worry about that component failing at all?

Meh, I would leave it in myself, why waste the $30?
Have you ever heard of one failing? I haven't!

Ya that is why I was asking. I had one and the printed circuit board got burnt up and a couple of the lights/gauges didn't work. I am guessing do to the failure of that component. So I found an 83's cluster and got that circuit which I think they will work. The 83's had all the same gauges, no tach, but it had a shift indicator. WE WILL SEE

I found one on JBG for $20
