Just bought this less than 4 days ago. Ran perfect the first 250 miles on the trip back home. I noticed after I filled the tank the exhaust skipping at low idle. Runs fine when on the road and but when at idle it runs pretty ruff. No engine lights on. I'm wondering if it's just the gas. The truck has been sitting for awhile without being driven. Smells like the truck is running really rich. The previous owner did just put all new col packs on. It has the v10. I love this truck and hope its not major!!! Thanks for any help or advice you can give.
I wonder if it's a dirty IAC valve? A sticky IAC valve usually causes sputtering on idle when the engine is cold, though. It does control the idle when the AC compressor kicks in, too I believe.
Hey Chad... welcome to the X or Ex or Excursion forum. Normally you won't want to start two threads with the same question. You will loose respect real fast. (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...excursion.html) Try what is suggested and then report back. We can't help people that don't communicate. Make sure you are searching the forums also. Good Luck!
You can usually get your codes pulled for free at Checker/O'Reilly, Autozone, or Advanced Auto Parts stores. Hope they are charging you anything or much.
Thanks for the update on the additive. The additive usually won't work instantly. You have to run through a whole tank of it.
No codes, and they did not charge anything. Talked to mechanic and he said could be fuel or the o2 sensors are going bad. Gonna run this tank out and change the fuel filter. If that doe not work on to the o2 sensors. Thanks for the help and I'll keep you updated.
Try running ethanol-free gas through it for a while. If its been sitting for a while, any ethanol in the gas will start attracting moisture and causing corrosion. It also leads to premature 02 sensor failure.
Will do. It almost sound like its trying to clear up. I may be just wishful thinking!! Engine sounds fine just the exhaust is where I hear it. It does make the truck shake when it happens.
ok so i just got off work and it seems as though its getting worse. i talked to the guy i bought the x from just to see if he ever had a issue like this. He really felt bad and said he had not. He did say he had not changed the fuel filter in about 60,000 miles. I bought fuel filter, pcv and air filter today. i have not had time to put them in yet but will try to get it done tomorrow. I just want to thank all of you for your help.
mine did this when i had a bad mass airflow sensor. one of the diode wires inside was bad. When i replaced the sensor it went away.. Just an FYI that sensor is not cheap
ok so it got worse today. A buddy of mine has a code reader and codes showed up. Two missfires. Replaced both with new coils and no luck. let it run and a new code came up the camshaft sensor. Replaced it and same code came up. Put the old sensor back in and now no code but still spuddering!!!! Put new air filter, fuel filter and pcv and cleaned mass flow sensor no change. Now no codes but still spuddering!!! Getting very frustrated at this point. Gonna try and replace all plugs on friday. Any advice at this point would be very appreciated. Thanks again for all your help.
Hey Chad, You may want to do like I had to do and just unplug one COP plug at a time while it is running. Listen for the the engine to change. If it doesn't change then that is your culprit. I had to do the same thing with mine to find the bad one. I am pretty sure that you will find at least one. Good luck and let us know.
