I have a 2012 F350 Crew Lariat. I am adding LED's under the side rails/steps/nerf bars. I want them to come on when the interior lights come on. I did this mod when I had my 2004 model. I need to know which wire in the door jam or somewhere else to splice into. Thanks
How about splicing into the push button switch that the door closes on? Then you can just run the wires down the door jam to your steps. Or you can splice into just about anything in the interior that comes on when the door is open, dome lights, lights in the door panel etc. That switch would probably be the easiest and closest place.
He has a new truck, they don't have door jamb pin switches, they have switches made into the latches. Also the new switches ground a wire, which goes to a body module, which senses this ground and sends the command over the trucks computer network. There is usually a interior lights relay in the fuse box.
The easiest way is going to be to intercept a wire going to a courtesy lamp. If you have a light on each side underneath the dash, I would tap into this and get this wire to the outside rocker area somehow. If you drill holes, I would drill a larger hole than needed, and use a piece of vacuum line over the wire to protect it where it goes through the sharp metal of the hole you drilled.
Went ahead and probed till I found it. Its the grey wire with a purple stripe. Its also available in both door jams on both sides. These leds look great under the factory steps.
