Can someone help with this Mod.

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">I saw this really cool mod for my truck today.http://www.f150store.com/Shop/ViewPr...eIndexID=65318 There L.E.D safety lights that you mount under your door and projects a beam of light on the ground at night. In instructions it says to tap into courtesy lights in the door (if you have them) or (if not) underneath the dash lights which we dont have either. Then it said if neither are avail to tap into the dome lights, Red wire on Red, Black on Black but i dont wanna go through all the trouble of wiring these L.E.D's ALL way to the domes. My question is: Is there another easier place i can wire these L.E.D's to simplify my life like maybe a fuse , the door pin/latch etc. There must be somewhere else we can wire them to. TY for any and all reply's. BTW my truck is a 2004 F150 Lariat Supercab.

The wire you need is a black/lightblue. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but this wire either goes down the driver's side rear corner, or the passenger side rear corner of the cab, and runs along the bottom door sill to the kick panel. If you can dig around and find this wire, you could splice into it.

The pictures I am looking at are in the factory wiring diagrams. The factory domelight wire is black/lightblue. If you dig around in the rocker panel door sill area, you may be able to find the black/lightblue and tie your new lights into this wire.

I am assuming one of your wires is a ground wire correct? So you will bolt it to the metal in the door.

Thanks alot for helpin me out i think in getting it now. Do you know what side of the truck the black/lightblue wire is along the door sill? passanger or drivers? or is there a wire on both sides of the truck or just the one? Once i locate it, do i tap both lights into the one wire (im useing 2 lights) And whats the best method? T-Taps, Cut some of the covering off and wind the wires of the lights around it and electrical tape? What do you suggest is best. TY

I don't know which side it's on. You will have to pull up both sides till you find it. I could not tell from the diagram which side it's on.

Yes, both lights into the one wire. I would ground the black wire from your new lights, and if it ends up being onthe passenger side sill, then run a wire from the driver's side under the dash all the way over to the pass side and tie both red door light wires into the factory wire.

And whats the best method? T-Taps, Cut some of the covering off and wind the wires of the lights around it and electrical tape? What do you suggest is best. TY
The quick easy way would be to go to the store and get some of those blue crimp connectors that are used for trailer wiring. With these, the wiring does not need to even be stripped. You just put two wires side by side in the fitting and squeeze it with pliers. It automatically cuts into the wire and makes the connection.

yep thats what i was talkin about. I know them as t taps, i may be wrong. Just hope i have enough room for one of them in that cramped channel of wires, unless i follow the group of wire towards the back of the truck i might find more room. Wonder if they make them for 3 wires or if i should just cram the 2 wires from the LED's together into the one hole. Where's best place to get these connectors? Like a Radio Shack? Thanks for all your help, It's much appreciated..

That is a splice tap, not a t-tap. A t-tap connects to one wire and has a side connection for a push on connector. jd

I would use one splice into the factory wire. Don't cut the factory wire, just crimp it down onto the factory wire as it runs past, at the same time you crimp your new wire.

I would then run your new wire all the way over to the other side of the truck via under the dash, and use one splice to connect it to the new door light wire.

I would then go back to the other side and use one splice to connect the new wire you ran under the dash, to a new wire to run to the other door lights.

It's kind of hard to explain, but you should be able to do it. These splice units are used more for splicing into an existing wire rather than trying to splice 3 seperate wires together.

k lets try this, see if i got it.
1. I splice into harnes once with new wire(splice tap), run new wire to the passanger side and connect it to the light with same type splice tap.
2. tap the drivers side light into the new wire that was sent to the passanger side with same type tap.

Do i got it?? LOL

Where can i get these splice taps.

Thank you for all your help. It's much appreciated.

Yes, I think you have it. Go to the parts store(something like Advance Auto) and they have a section with wire, fuses, bulbs, crimp connectors, and I think they have a little pack of these splice things too.
