Guys....need some straight up honest opinions here. The 6.0 just went under the knife for head gaskets...under warranty with stock parts put on and warranty is now expired. I can trade mine in on a 2012 and keep basically the same payment. So.....do I trade up or wait for the 6.0 to pop and just fix it right? What are the pros or cons? Opinions please?
This is my opinion...it and a dollar will get you something off the value menu at McDonalds. In this particular sub-forum we know pretty much everything there is to know about the 6.0L and there's enough of them out there with over 200k miles to know what to expect when. Other than the Oil Cooler/EGR Cooler and the TTY bolts in the heads...the 6.0L is a proven design. I'm not saying the 6.7L is a bad engine...but I don't have to buy DEF for my truck and I don't have to worry about a DPF needing replacement at some point down the road. If money isn't the issue and you'd rather start anew with a new truck...by all means go with the 6.7L, the package they come in looks nice. But if your like me, it's nice to not have a truck payment...there's going to be a 6.0L in my driveway for years to come.
Same payment for how long? What is the payment and how much are you paying in total. New truck paid for in how many years, versus payment on old truck with no warrenty. Not that warrenty is all that but for comparison I would look at how much you will spend and compare. Even assuming the repairs on the 6.0 need to be done. The financial is numbers, now given the cost difference do you want a new truck?
I agree....don't want the payment. Issue is...I have another year to make payments on the 6.0 and one big repair equals about a year of payments. That's my biggest obstacle, and I'm really torn given my options. I like my truck.

If I do the math.... 1 year of payments left at $ 475. On old truck. New truck about the same payment for 5 years. So basically I'm extending my same payment by 4 years to get a new truck. This is a tough decision.
No. Very little info given....just here it is fixed. So...who knows.
Without knowing why the headgaskets failed in the first place and what was done to correct the root cause, it's hard to say if the problem is fixed for good or not.
Having said that I would tend to believe if the work was done by a Ford tech that has alot of experience with the 6.0 psd, it would be fixed for good IMO.

Sorry but something doesn't look right. You are saying you are going to pay "about $475" per month for a new truck. So lets say the "about $475" is actually $500 per month for 5 years. 5 years is 60 months, 60 x $500 is $30,000 total in payments for a 2012 6.7L diesel. I have only priced F350's and F450's recently so maybe a F250 can be had in that range - I don't know. I also am not factoring in the trade in value they are allowing.
Anyway, the 12 months left on the present truck amounts to $5700. The $30,000 from above minus that $5700 equals $24,300. You could take half that and put it in the bank and still probably have plenty to cover any repairs on the present truck.
That is my 2 cents but I am also quite ticked off with car companies and dealerships now and wouldn't give them one red penny.
edit1: I just priced a F250 XL 4x2 with 6.7L diesel on the Ford web site and it came to $40,000. That means they are allowing you $10,000 for your truck. I will go off to kbb now and see what a 07 F250 XL 4x2 with 6.0L diesel is worth.
edit2: kbb quotes $13,933 (fair condition) to $16,000 (excellent condition), so without knowing more details it would appear they are factoring in approximately $4,000 to $6,000 to replace the head gaskets.
edit3: But wait a minute, they have to factor in the $5700 you still owe so they are only allowing you $4300 on your present truck. My apologies if I am totally screwed up in my calculations or missed something that was already said.

Keep your 6.0 and do things right. Keep up on maintiance follow the guidance and advice of the awesome guys on this site. Save your $475 a month for 4 or 5 years. Then pay cash for the next one!
Sounds good to keep it. Now the truck is actually worth 25-30,000 on straight retail. Now given the current 4,500 worth of rebates and trade....yeah the same payment or less. Not counting taxes and so on. I found a 2011 new on the lot....looks like I'm at $39,000 after initial talks....and not counting trade in. Might just see what the options are for humor!
I just wanted someone to talk me out of trading up.
What about Insurance and Tax's on the New truck,,,going to be much more then the 6.0 is for sure !!
LOL !! The one thing people forget about is their insurance going up when they buy a $ 50,000 truck. Yes mine would take a small increase but tolerable.
I just can't see parting with with 6.0 at this point, it sounds and smokes like a diesel should and won't be costing me a payment before long. Besides, I only have 43,000 miles on the clock so should be many years left in her....
I wanted a new truck and priced it out and said no way. My 2005 has 93,000 miles on it 90,000 on an Extreme street tune the truck still has the original egr, oil coolers and head gaskets.I run an Edge Insite to monitor vitals. I would have no problem spending $5,000 to do everything if the shtf.
