Hello again. Been a while since I have been to the site. I just sold a 77 F150 4x4 and acquired an 88 F150 5.0 4x4 to compliment the 90 F150 5.8 4x4 I already have. The previous owner told me not to fill both tanks at once and to run on the front tank only. He said that if I fill the back tank and run on it that it will transfer fuel to the front tank. I am thinking that the fuel selector valve is the culprit, that the fuel return side isn't completely switching over. I can get a new valve pretty cheaply (I work at O'Reilly Auto Parts, gotta love a discount, lol) so price isn't too much of an issue. Am I on the right track here or is it something else? Thanks for all help on this issue!
Sounds like you have it pretty much covered.. The valve on the frame is sure easier than replacing a FDM in the tank on the later model trucks with the transfer problem..

I think the original style non electric switching valve is a dealer only item.
When I look at O'Reilly, Autozone, Napa etc sites, they only show the aftermarket electric type.
I put one on my '86 and it works well but was quite a bit of work getting it installed.
