Stripped Fuel filter cap

I finished doing the blue spring mod and stripped the secondary fuel filter cap in the process. I have been searching on ebay/online for another because my local dealership wants $66 for a new one. I wanted to check to make sure if i need to get a OEM part instead of an aftermarket one or one of these billet caps. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Ford_Doctor wrote up a procedure on it. He drilled a couple of holes in the top. Then he used a socket like those on page 158 of the pdf in the link below:

http://www.toolsunlimited.com/pdf/ToolsCat_73.pdf

They called it a locknut socket. I would call it a spanner socket.

You could also search the FDDTS web pages for his article.

Stick with the oem cap. May be expensive now but a lot cheaper in the long run. Try Tousley ford.

Sorry for the delay but thank you for the responses. I have looked on ebay and those prices are a lot easier on the eye but i was thinking I would have to go with an OEM versus aftermarket like you need to with the oil filter cap. Thanks for the instructions for getting the cap off, like an idiot I used a 12pt socket instead of a 6pt but will wait until next filter change to try to get it off.

This happened to me on my first 6.0 (an 04) and I tapped the cap off with a chisel and hammer, drilling method is probably better and faster

I'm afraid that I would damage the housing, or drill into the standpipe. Plus I don't have a spanner socket. I think what I'm going to do is super glue a socket onto it and hope it will get enough of a grip.

Why not use a 1/2 drive ratchet in the center of the cap?

If you have to replace it anyway why not give it a shot?

Tried everything........
Stripped it, broke it with the socket, screwdrivered it, chiseled it.
Now with just really the threaded part in the housing, what would you recommend? It never budged and I am almost sure at 130K someone(Ford) has never seen the inside of this filer housing.

What to do now?

You can always buy a new filter base (oil and fuel filter unit).
