has anyone had an E4OD that seemed to be working fine other than sluggish but yet your Tach is acting strange? this morning at highway speed my tach was in the yellow over 3k RPM but yet the truck sounded good not like it was over reving at all. Ive put a new tach sensor in to clear code 62 and the tranny seems to be working properly but the tach is screwy. Is it the tranny slipping or that tach?
acting sluggish isn't a good sign.add that to 3k rpms.and error code 62,it sounds like a failing converter.
did you clean your solenoid pack plug yet? what speed were you going, with which rear axle gearing to see 3k rpms?
the tach can't be screwy,or you'll eventually ruin the trans. your probably running high temps.aftermarket trans temp gauge?
how long have you been driving it like this?
how many miles are on it,and how often was it serviced?
Thank You for the reply I'm the 3rd owner I believe the first owner maintained it cause It looked like a new truck when the 2nd owner purchased it in 2006. The second owner treated poorly and was not maintained. Ive been spending my spare time trying to get it back in shape. When I got it it would not start the tranny was in limp mode, the vacuum pump was toast and the batteries were gone. It was givin to me. It has 130k miles on it and I plan to keep it so I don't mind spending a little money on it. I have about $1500 in it now with new I/P, injectors, batteries, vacuum pump, tension pulley, rpm sensor and all new filters and fluids. now I'm trying to deal with this tranny the truck drives good ford tranny's have always been slow shifters in my experience so since I've never driven one in good condition I'm not sure what to expect. I haven't towed anything yet and only driven it a few hundred miles in the last week.
nice deal.
check out the drivers side door jam sticker, and post the axle code, could you please?
also what speed did you see 3k rpms?
stock tire size too or?
did you inspect the trans fluid and level first? how's it look? pretty dark, smell burnt?
axle code is C5 from the factory it had 16X245's now it has 16X285's I was driving 70MPH.
tranny fluid looks ok smell ok to me but I'm not a mechanic so take that with a grain of salt not dark tho
coming in to work this morning the tach was on 3500RPM just touching the yellow but yet I was barely touching the gas peddle and the engine was purring like a kitten. There is no was that motor was revving at 3500RPM.
with the auto choke on this morning warming it up tach showed 250 RPM I have a new Tach sensor what else could be causeing it to be acting up? also where on the engine is the oil pressure sending unit that has went out also. its stuck in the middle doesn't move at all
if the tach is showing way off like that, but the trans doesn't go into limp mode,id suppose the PSOM is probably faulty, because i don't think the pcm reads from that, just the tach sensor, and that tells both the pcm and PSOM the info.not too sure on that one though.
for sure it's not the sensor nor wires to it/between the pcm otherwise the trans would be acting nuts and you couldn't drive it.so my best guess would be a faulty psom.
fyi;
axle code C5 = limited slip 4.10 ratio.
you say when you first got it,the trans was in limp mode though.what did it take to cure that issue? not getting anymore codes now?
its the sluggishness of the trans that has me concerned about the condition of the converter.
the oil pressure sending unit is located at the rear of the engine.look down in back close to the GPR and you'll see it.
the od light was flashing it was in limp mode put in new tach sensor and that removed the flashing light and got it out of limp mode and it shifts good now. no return of the fault its been 500 miles now. I thought there was more wrong with the tranny because of the tach but the more I drove it the more convinced I become that it was the tach acting up. Is the PSOM the little module connected to the I/P I just replaced? I saw a service bulitin on that thing in this forum but haven't changed it yet
the psom is the digital gauge cluster.it's not a sensor,or commonly required part that needs to be replaced.like anything though,it can fail.if that's whats bad, you'd need to swap one out from a used truck.sad part is,the odo would be off from that point,so write down the current mileage.you'll want to research this more,as its just a guess on my part.don't just replace it in hopes.i haven't read much about these to know how to test etc.
the FIPL - fuel injection pump lever or more commonly known as TPS - throttle position sensor,is a sensor on the ip. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ions-only.html
if that has failed, and or out of specs.that could fully explain the trans sluggishness.
I had problems with my PSOM. I was having tranny problems and no codes. It is in the dash cluster. I sent the whole dash to someone in ND and they fixed it. Around here a PSOM repair is between 200 and 300. I have read sometimes the plug comes loose. All fords in these years had PSOMs.
Thanks I will check it out this morning just at idle it was showing 100rpm and it was running fine so its definitely something like that. I have been able to find a few other posts with this issue so I have a few things to try
