I just bought my daughter a 76 F 250 Highboy with a 460 and a 4 speed. We bought it as a non runner because the conversion was never finished. Everything was hooked up but the flywheel appeared a little too small in diameter and the starter just grinds. What do I need? It has a 12" clutch in it now. I found a PRW flywheel with 184 teeth that I was told would work but it says it's for 11" clutches. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

You need a flywheel that has a ring gear that will allow the starter drive to engage it. As long as the RG dia is correct, it should be drilled (o can be drilled) for either an 11" or 12" plate.
Is the trans out? If so, can you see a CASTING I.D. No. (FORD) on it (usually @ the mounting bolt circle)?
So what is the RG diameter? I've seen flywheels advertised with 176, 180, and 184 teeth per inch. What's the difference in application? It could just be that I need a new ring gear but I want to be sure I've got the correct wheel first.
verified that the 184 tooth wheel I had was a 360/390 wheel and the correct one is the 176.
Thanks for the help.
So the FE will not work on the conversion as the RG size is too small? Is the flywheel they recommended an OEM or a specialty item? Will it accept your 12" clutch asm?
