Yay for a blow out while toying my Fifthwheel yesterday. I just put six hercules tires 225/75/15 with less than 1000 miles on them. So tomorrow im going to the local tires shop to see if they will replace it.... they said they would when i bought them, we shall see what they will sing now. anyone have Hercules tires on their trailers in here?
What you need to know is, are they made in China, if so get them off the trailer and put some real tires on it. Read almost any forum on RVs and you will find chinese tires are a problem. And wheels made in China are not much better. Since you said you bought six I assume a very heavy trailer 16 to 17K lbs, maybed more for a toy hauler. You need some front line trailer tires to deal with that weight. I know this the hard way.
st tires i believe. Yeah They are china.... 18k toy hauler fifth wheel.... Next time ill spend more money and get american made tires
Count yourself lucky if all that happened was the tire is ruined. I had 2 blow outs on the same trip two years ago. The first one took out my electrical and gas to the kitchen slide plus all the stuff that supported the lines. I mean it ripped them out from both ends. I had a mess, took three days and a couple dozen trips to home depot to get back on the road. the second blowout was a month and a half later on the way back from the west coast. it took out the other end of the slide. not as much stuff but needed some repairs. I had top of the line goodyear 14 ply trailer tires. problem with my 5er is it should have 3 axles but only has 2. Anyway, the tires are under a lot of stress, even more in hot weather. Based on their reputation I wouldn't let them put another Chinese tire on your trailer. That's my opinion based on lots of on line reading on the subject. Good luck.
Tires are the most important safety item on any vehicle!
I always tell people spend $200 more than you think per 4 tires and the ride quality and safety will increase 10 times!!
You will see less flats and problems also.

and i like to put on higher rated tires than i think i'll need
From what research I've done, there are no trailer tires made in America. You'll need to go with LT load E tires. Get ready for the tire shop to look at you like you're stupid... Every tire salesman I've spoken to thinks trailers only get ST.
If you can only run 15's then I highly suggest the Maxxis ST's, they are not made in China but in Thailand. They have great reviews on the other RV forums and they are the only ST's that you do not see a lot of complaints. I have over 6k on my Maxxis and no issues, you must run 65 mph and no more on STs. It says right on the sidewalls not to exceed 65 mph. Since you have a heavy trailer, I would sure look at the clearance between tires and see if you can get 16" wheels on there with some E rated tires or G rated. My ST's are a radial tire E rated but what was on it before I changed tires was D rated. I am a proponent of buying the next ply level over what it reccommends. Oh, Discount Tire is where I bought mine.
