I cut up a 77 Ford F150, used some of the parts for another similar truck and cut the frame under the seat to make a trailer out of it. As an aside I should have cut the frame further up because when I bent the front together to weld on the hitch I had to remove the front crossmember. Oh well, what's done is done. Anyway I have a couple questions:
1) I want to put a bed on it so I got 2 sheets of 4x8 plywood and some 2x6's. There's a hump in the frame where it goes over the axle. I don't know whether I should cut holes in the plywood so the bed lays flat with the rest of the frame or put shims under the bed to raise it level with the highest point of the frame.
2) Can I remove the differential and leave the tires or does the diff. make that much drag on it. I would have to replace it with an axle, of course.
3) Should I worry about the tires hitting the bed if there's too much load on it?
If it is a full floating axle, pull the shafts, and make some caps to keep the oil in. Just make sure the oil level is sufficient to reach the wheel bearings.
