Fuel Heater Leaking.

Hi all. I have a leak on top of the fuel filter housing where the rubber boot fits over a wire connection. I am told this is the fuel heater. Couple of questions:

1. If I get a new heater element from Ford, how do I actually replace it?
2. Can I just get an oring or something so I don't have to spend $150 at Ford?
3. Since I live in the South, is it feasible to just by pass the thing?

Thanks everyone.

All you should need is the o-ring. Got mine from IH. Some members have taken the heater out, tapped the hole and plugged it. Some have put liquid metal on top of the heater, let it cure and forget it. To replace the o-ring, pull the filter, get a socket to fit the fitting in the center of the base, remove it and the base will come apart. Push the heater out, replace the o-ring, lube it push it back in and put the base back together. Most remove the filter base from the truck. I did mine with the base still on the truck.

Air bubbles rise like a loose foam from the rubber boot on top of the fuel filter housing.

Did mine two years ago an no leaks.
