differences between F and E series turbo

Hey

Whats the difference between the turbo on the E series and the F series?
I have an E350 2001 model here in Norway. I was wondering if its possible to fit the F series turbo on this engine.
-Or schould I? I hear some uses the van tubo on their trucks for better performance. Why is that? Is it because the turbo is smaller, it will spinn up faster?

Is the turbo I have good enough for superchips chip (+70hp) and 4" exhaust?

Others who are more knowledgeable can chime in with more details, but generically speaking, yes, the Van turbo is an upgrade to our stock turbo because it can flow more air. The reason for that is because the Van's engine compartment is not large enough for an intercooler, so its turbo has to be capable of shoving more air volume into the intake since the air it supplies cannot be cooled in the absence of an intercooler. Therefore, when properly installed on our engine, which has an intercooler, you can then get more air into the intake system for higher air:fuel ratios (more efficient combustion).

As to how much faster it will spool, I have to leave that to others to explain. Same thing goes for any required modifications to the pedastal, housing, etc.

One thing I know, though, is that you have to be careful to not pay too much for one because a lot of them require rebuilding before their full advantage can be realized. Others can explain more details on that issue as well.

Thank you for a quick answer.
Looks like I have to install an intercooler on my van

There is always room for the IC, even if it means I have to cut place for it in the front bumper.

Sorry... I read your question in reverse. I thought you were looking at placing the van turbo on a F-series superduty.

Regardless, yes, the stock F-series turbo will be an air limiting factor on your van unless you can squeeze an intercooler into it.

Good to know that my turbo is good enough for the job. Intercooler, chip and 4" exhaust should make it powerful to haul my racecar with. I beleve the intercooler is very nessesary to lower the EGT. Will make it fit!

A Van turbo flows about the same amount of air, the van turbo has a bigger exhaust housing which drops drive pressure. Do not put an Fseries turbo on your van, they come that way to help lower EGTs because like stated you cannot fit an intercooler on the van. IMO keep the turbo you have and buy an Fseries intake in your planning on putting an intercooler on it somehow. The intake already has the piping to hook up an intercooler to. You can see the difference between the two by looking at yours and comparing to my intake

Don't waste your time with an intercooler either. Its not worth it on your Van. Check my mods on my van. I can hit 32psi's of pressure and I am chipped up to 140 and my egt's are just fine and I am permanently overweight being i have a 14' cargo van. My van feels like a 747 taking off at the airport when i put the pedal down only 1/4 of the way. Its incredible and it tugs light a freight train.
