I have a 79 T-bird with a 302 2bbl that is horrible to get started when its cold. The car does start fine after it has run for a while. I have replaced the coil, ignition box, carb kit, plugs and wires. I am hopping somebody can give me an idea of what else I can do. And I have also replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter with no luck.
Actually, you slowly open the throttle all the way, and slowly close it. This should pump some fuel into the throttle to help cold starts. When the engine is cold, the choke plate should be closed up against its stop. You can tune it by loosening the clamp that holds the automatic choke heater/coil housing and turning it so that the choke plate just closes completely, when cold. When you're starting the engine, the plate should open slightly from manifold vacuum to let in some air. When the engine is hot, the plate should be pushed open by the choke coil to allow full air flow.
