Help

When running 70 mph on interstate. When I step on the pedal to pass other cars . The rpm gauge goes up to three 3000 rpm and never down shifts. It does when pulling a 16 ft trailor load
ed with fourwheelers. Any ideas for a cheap fix?

Sounds like your transmission is slipping or your TC is not locking up.

List what you are running and you will get better answers.....

I don't think my truck has ever downshifted out of overdrive at 70mph...

Stock 7.3 l diesel no muffler 4" pipe . Stock automatic trans, 4x4 no lift kit.

Yeah, it sounds like the TC is unlocking for the downshift, then taking longer than usual to re-lock. One of the things I hated most about my stock trans. You can search on here for a TC lockup switch mod. What you do is right after the trans downshifts, flip the TC lockup switch and it will manually lock the torque converter. Then once you get back up to speed, turn the switch off before the trans shifts back into OD. Just be somewhat careful with the switch, Brian of BTS and I had a good conversation about it a few years back and he told me you shouldn't keep the TC manually locked up during shifts.
