Well this weekend was the first time to take my truck high way driving! All I can say is wow, diesel is the way to go... even though my loads were only 600 pounds or so, the truck did not hesitate to peg the speedo really quick...
but here are my questions. I set the cruize control at around 65 MPH and reving about 2200 in 5th. Going up the hills and everything this was no problem. But how do I keep my EGT's down? I dont have a gauge yet, but I will be towing my trailer with car in over some decent hills soon and want to beable to know what to do to keep my EGT's down.
I agree, stock, floor it. The TW will really help, did me. The bigger exhaust and intake will also really help. Get a gauge though, its my #1 gauge when I tackle a mountain grade pulling my 15K 5er. I lay the EGT's on 1,200* and my right foot does the rest. Keep the RPM's up by down shifting and when you start getting over 1,200* back off the throttle. Don't use the cruise, I've looked down when only half paying attention and have seen it over 1,400*.
interesting... i would have thought the opposite considering how fast a turbo impeller is spinning... but im not too worried then, because i know with my trailer I will be in 4th gear around 2700-2900 most the time when towing up hill and on one hill maybe even 3rd...
You got it, I do fine except for the slow lane. If there is to much traffic for me to get around some truckers who are down to 20mph, then I'm screwed. It forces me to slow down and lose my RPM,s. If I have a clear shot, the slowest I got was 45mph on mountain grades. I live in Nebraska and my daughter in Oregon, I pulled some whoppers!! My wife just sat over there and read her book while I watched at my EGT's.

Well I traveled with my Cat today... lets just say she does not like riding in my truck... should have put her in the other car that my mom and dad were in...
but pryo, boost, and volt meter from ISSPRO should go in the truck soon, ill probalby use some graduation money for it and a chip and exhaust...
If you keep it stock, which I highly recommend except for those crap air filters Ford has, you won't have any problems towing. Especially with that little load on it. I'm grossing close to 30,000 pounds sometimes and rarely have to downshift from 5th. 4th is the lowest I've ever had to go on the highway unless it's tight turns I'm in. Since my trucks are stock I don't even care about EGT's. If I was going to have a problem melting pistons it would have happened a long time ago.
