Resurface heads or no?

Well my friend finally got the driver side head off right now and his brother took it to work with him today to see how warped they were. He said that they are .003 off across the entire head. Is this worth resurfacing? He's still got to take the passenger side off and see how warped it is but if it's the same or less, would you bother?

Always check and deck or he could be doing this all again. I think the most you can take off a 6.0 head is .008. Don't cut corners on these types of things EVER. Or you will end up doing it right the second time.

What does that mean? The only reason I say that is because everyone that has had their heads resurfaced at the one shop anywhere near here gets about 5-6mpg less than they did before doing studs and that's the only thing we can think of that would have changed...so if it doesn't need to be resurfaced or trued, then we'll just clean them up real good and be all good. I mean what are the tolerances for needing the heads resurfaced or not?

Seems to me that I've read that .004 to .005 is the max safe clean up. Maybe a tech will chime in. I've also read that ford will not resurface them. They install new heads.

.004" is the tolerance from the shop manual, measured at 13 different places. .003" seems like it would be acceptable, if the head and the block are within spec everywhere

Not decking the heads is like not checking for TP in a public restroom before you start. To sum it up its just bad.

Andey--how many thousands of posts are there about having the heads resurfaced????? If you like doing all this work for nothing the first time then just let them fly the way they are.
