Wife was driving Ex, ran out of fuel. Gauge read 1/8+ tank, fuel light just came on.... Question: Is it the sender or the dash gauge. How would I test either? Suggestions on fixing problem? If I decided to pull the in-tank fuel pump/sender assembly. Is there an access in the floor of the Ex or do I have to drop the tank?
#1) You would have to drop the tank there is no access through the floor,
(unless you make it).
#2) I usually watch the lie-o-meter and try to fill-up when it's < 100 miles.
My guage seems to work ok however.
Would be curious what the distance to empty said when fuel ran out.
#3) It's really bad on the fuel injectors to run out of fuel.
It also sucks debris into the fuel pump/lines/engine
#4) A Scangauge2 (or any ODBII) can read the fuel level sensor.
That would provide you a way to determine if the sender is bad.
IMO, just fill-up @ 1/4 tank and you'll save the hassle.
