i have a 79 ford with a dana 60 rear and i was wandering if i could just get longer studs and put duall wheels on my axle? or would it be to wide?

 

There are two basic widths in Dually axles. Cab and chassis trucks had a more narrow frame and the hub to hub width of the Dually axles on these trucks were more narrow as well. The Dually pickups with regular boxes and outboard fenders sat on the wider pickup frames and had full width dually axles.

All that said, the brake setups on the Dually axles are set inboard to clear the extreme dish of the inner wheel. The drum brake axles had special designed drums that mde them deeper and tapered in towards the hub.

Another thing to consider is that the whels on dually axles are all hub piloted and the hubs had a deeper piloting surface to accommodate the thickness of two wheels. On top of that, Ford, Chevy, and Dodge all used different hub pilot diameters so wheels from different brands can't be easily swapped. Remember that the fronts should match for ease of tire rotation and spare tires. Front dually wheel spacers is another conversation.

I'm not sure if the D60 was ever used as a dually axle to get brake and hub parts from. If not, it would be easier just get a complete dually axle over custom outfitting yours. A side note is that Ford didn't make dually pickup with the full width axle until 1980. All earlier vers were cab and chassis with the narrower frame and axle.

I know Arrowcrafter sells spacer kits to turn a standard axle into a Dually, but I have never looked into them as that whole idea sounds kind of dangerous to me. That's just personal opinion and they may be the perfect application for your goals.

 

There are two different inner frame rails widths (behind the cab) found on 1973/79 F250/350's.

33 1/2" frame rails: 1973/77 F250 4WD (High Boys): Regular & Crew Cab Cab & Chassis, Flareside/Styleside pickups, factory installed Flat or Stake Beds.

33 1/2" frame rails: 1973/79 F350 Regular Cabs on the 140" wheelbase: 1973/76 Super Camper Special, 1973/79 Trailer Special, 1977/79 Camper Special (Ford dropped "Super" after 1976).

All other F100/350's have 37 1/2" frame rails.

1953/84: Only F350's were available with DRW, first year for F250's with DRW: 1985. F100/150's were never offered with DRW.

1980 was the first year for a DRW Styleside pickup, F350 only. The DRW's fiberglass fenders bolt to the quarter panels (bed sides). Ford never offered a Flareside pickup with DRW.

There is no specific Dana 70 rear axle listed in the '73/79 truck parts catalogs for F350's with DRW. With SRW or DRW only applies to 1975/79 E350's.

 

I have a 1975 F250 Highboy, I need to replace my bed and was thinking of adding a flat bed. I found a 8x10 flat bed with removable sides, but it is off a 1964 chevy 1 ton. I was wondering how much will it take to get it mounted? or will it just be a major pain in the ars?
