Window rubber

I need to buy a rubber for my truck, front windshield, and was wondering if all the different brands are created equal. LMC is $19, MACS is $33 and DC is $40. Also, what do you do with the gap or ends of the seal, I assume its extruded not one piece, maybe not. Carpenter say buy from them because there is a BIG difference.

I hate lmc quality. Macs a lot of time uses DC but I just ordered a new windshield rubber and rear rubber from DC. I wanted to be safe and know a lot of people happy with their quality.

I've been happy with the rubber from Mid Fifty except the door seal rubber.

I advise against LMC....I used their w/s rubber, fits horrible. Same with vent widow, door rubber, etc. Not worth the few bucks I saved....

I recently purchased my glass and rubber from LMC along with other stuff. Never had a problem with the rubber. Half of the stuff was bagged in DC bags. Go figure. I did have a problem (not their fault) with a rear seal and they shipped a replacement out asap no questions asked. Unless you are going for a top notch rebuild, LMC probably is a good bet. I use to buy a lot from DC but recently half of the stuff I have bought from MACs, Mid-50 and LMC comes in DC bags. Also, DC customer service has gotten worse. They have been very unhelpful and rude the past few phone calls. With everyone selling the same stuff (mostly) I am going to go for price AND shipping costs.

On a side note, I had another supplier badmouthing LMC's glass because it was "cheap chinese junk". He kept telling me HIS glass was American made. I kindly reminded him that his glass was 3x the cost of LMC's and as long as LMCs glass was tempered and had a DOT marking (which it does), why did I care. I like to buy American but quality is not always assured. Cost is more important to me with glass than where it is cut/made.

I'm not saying your particular glass is good or bad, just that there's been a lot of things come from China that has correct or proper markings, like your glass, that is as phony as a 3 dollar bill. Things like 'lead-free' paint on children's toys, HUD approved drywall, bootlegged or stolen intellectual property or goods, the list goes on and on. There's nothing about any Chinese markings that I would consider or trust to be an assurance of quality, or a seal of approval.

Just my 2c, fwiw.

Point taken... but I use to work in an American glass shop and I can tell you a lot of questionable materials make their way into "Made in the USA" too. My recent purchase from Dennis Carpenter was a pair of inside door handles. They had proudly filed off part of the Ford number and had a nice MADE IN CHINA label stuck on the handle. DC doesn't necessarily equate to good quality material, free of foreign manufacturing. That was the point I was trying to make.

Not all glass is created equal, for sure. My car has original German Sekurit glass, and after 26 years it's less sand pitted than the Chinese or American glass in my other vehicles that are only 5 - 7 years old. I've had several rocks bounce off it without any stars or cracks. It costs 3x ($750) what a Safelite or LOF windshield costs, but I might just pay it when the time comes.

I got my windshield and rear window rubber from C&G back in '02. They were made in Thailand, fit perfectly and were very high quality IMO. Rubber comes from that part of the world, it makes sense they'd be good at it.

Not trying to push any of them, this is fyi. Just bought glass and rubber from LMC for windshield and back glass (49 F1) Windshield went in slick as a button, very satisfied. Rear glass is another story. After several attempts it's still laying on the table. Don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not but it just won't go into the hole. Several of my friends have attempted to help but it's still laying on that dang table! When we try to get it close enough to install it we're a 1/4" bigger than the hole. The glass is 1/16" bigger than the original. If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate them otherwise I'll probably take it to a glass shop.

Which way are you trying to install your glass? From the outside in or the inside out? On the 53-56 it must be installed from the inside out.
