Another Hellwig Review

As much as I hate to say it, I had to use the wife's Amazon Prime account, and got free shipping for a grand total of $201 to my door
'02 Limited, 7.3, 285 LTX's, Bilsteins all the way around, no factory rear sway.
I've been "dealing" with the handling on this sucker for a couple years now. Not near as bad when towing, but still not where I would like it to be by any means.
Install was a breeze, prob would have gone a bit quicker if I had ramps and it hadn't been raining, as I had to do all the work from the rear of the truck on a creeper.(for the record, with no lift, if you slide under the truck fast enough, you will use the diff to remove some skin from your nose)
Under 2 hours(including refreshment breaks) and it was bolted up and good to go.
400 miles later, couldn't be happier. Azz end is tighter than a ...well, it's tight. Handling on corners is 10x better, feels rock solid, straight line handling is far better, I would say 3/4 of the wander is gone, time to get the front end aligned to the right specs, and I think we can call it a day. Sure beats what everyone else has had to do with springs, steering boxes, tires, etc...

Captain,
If your Excursion is four wheel drive, I would like to know what the clearance is between the front bump stops and the front axle.

distance as I just measured from bottom of bump stop to top of the bolt plate=
Passenger side=just at an inch
Driver side=about 3 inches, I guess I should replace it, since all that is left is the bump stop bracket.
guess it's time to start saving up for some new springs

Just thought I would ask. I believe you will find it would ride better once you get the front end high enough to where the frame stops banging on the axle.

I def have not noticed any of that while driving, so I may still have some spring left in the old things, of course the missing stop isn't helping any with the lift of the things either.
Thankfully I'm taking part in building an off road truck that will be made of a 250 and 350 dually combined. HOPEFULLY there will be a good set of springs to be had from the pile. The $ just isn't there for new replacements right now.
The wife of course doesn't notice, but I'm far happier to be using as the DD now. Towing either the camper or the car hauler wasn't an issue, of course my camper is an older beast that's tongue heavy as all get out as well.
