I got a 63 f100 and was wondering how hard it would be to make it a 4x4 i got a donor truck its a 76 longbed id like to keep mine a shortbed and just put the axles and ect under it
Take the bodys off both frames, relocate the rear axle on the 76 to where it would need to be to fit your shortbed, plasma cut the excess frame on the 76 and bolt the body of your 63 onto the 76. Much easier than swapping axles and adding transfercase mounts and getting alot of custom driveshafts made. This way the only driveshaft you will need made is the rear from the transfercase to the rear pumpkin. My truck is a 1966 f100 flareside on a 1975 f250 4x4 frame (highboy)
Find a 65-66 100-350 cab and use that for the swap modifying a 63 cab to fit a 65-79 style front is a lot of hassle compared to a bolt on 65 or 66 cab. If you have a f250 the box will bolt on but if its a half ton you'll need to move the box bolts. The biggest hassle is usually getting everything rewired but with these old trucks its peanuts.
If you are interested i have a 66 SWB parts truck. The cab has nice mounts and some rust in the floors pans. I am near Wichita Ks so not too far of a drive. I can send some pics of it.
The outside is nice. The floor has rust in the fwd end and a couple of other spots. if you send me an E-mail address i can send you some pics of it mine is mntharkins@pixius.net
