hey guys im brandon, im 18 and i have had my 66 f-100 for about 3 years now and it has been my daily driver ever since i got it. The original 240 just went out at 322k miles and i also just moved to colorado with lots of snow. Im wanting to do a v-8 swap and a 4x4 conversion. I have been looking at some 67-79 4x4's with v-8's that are good running but rusted out, beat up, ect for about 1200 bucks. i would like to find a 61-66 4x4 frame but they are pretty scarce. How hard would it be to put my 66 SWB body onto a 67-72 or 73-79 4x4 frame. Would i be better off doing that or putting the 4x4 running gear onto my frame. I realize there will be a ton of modifications and welding/cutting to do and thats not a problem. Just wondering which would be my easiest route? Also am i going to NEED the 4x4 front fenders or can i get away with not using them, i know where 2 rust free ones are if i need them.
the the frame length and wheelbase are the same right? And are there serial numbers on the frame too? if not i dont see why a frame swap would be a big deal.
garbz, has done a lot of modding under the chassis, and can help you a lot. These cabs & front clips are all bolt hole exchange from 65 - 79. You lift it up roll one chassis out and the new under, pretty simple.
To do drive line work all on your back on the floor under the truck where alignment is critical and your life depends on you getting it done is very critical.
Give the man a listen, don't risk life and limb or someone elses on a bad idea.
i figure i will do all the driveline work while the cab is off the frame. Unless i need to put the body back on first? Also is a 100/150 frame the same as a 250 frame. I may be doing a decent amount of hauling with it and was considering using a 250 frame, suspenstion, ect the frame is the same.
Alright so i think i will just find a mid 70's 250 4x4 and put all the suspention stuff on my frame, i know it will be a lot of work but i have done a lot of custom fab work before and if i cant do it i know a guy who builds custom 4 link suspentions for people and he said he would help me out with it. Also did they make a 61-66 ford SWB stepside 4x4....i saw a SWB stepside today sitting in a field and it is lifted up pretty high.
No the F250 4x4 frame is larger and taller and heavier than the F100. and yes F100 4x4 was available in short bed flair side configuration. (a lot of these went to the forestery and military)
