hey i have a question im not sure which section to post thread but i think this ones ok, but anyways my questions is How do bidding for a car on ebay works? anything i should know? i never really tried it and dont know anyone that has. the only thing im asking i mean can you really win a car thats worth $20,000+ for just $100? im just confused any info will help ty
p.s how will i know if the cars legit like no liens on title or anything?
if there is no reserve on it, and you are the only one to did on it, it is possible to win the bid at $100.
but that very rarely happens.
as far as liens on the title, or whether it is a legit sale or not, that is one of those things you just have to have trust in the seller things.
but remember, it it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
i figured since its close to where i live but i dont understand the deposit? is that like if i win the bid for like 400$ i have to pay 500$ ontop of the bid??
Note that it says "reserve not met", therefore it will not be sold even to the highest bidder, if the seller does not get the reserve. The reserve will greatly exceed $500 so you don`t have to worry about that. If you did happen to bid in excess of the reserve the $500 deposit would come off of the your bid so you would not be paying more than your winning bid.
I bought my current car off EBAY MOTORS...I've had it for 2+ years...not much in the way of issues. I did have someone I knew check it out for me as it was 1500 miles away. The seller did take off the tires it was pictured with and ship it up to me with bald tires on it. After some drama...he made good on them.
Not necessarily...find something you like...bid up to your comfort level...don't go over. If there is a reserve...often times the reserve gets lowered if the bids aren't approaching that number.
Good advice. I bought a quad a few years ago on ebay. I bid up to what I felt it was worth, but it didn't hit the reserve. The seller emailed me the day after and we met in the middle of what he wanted and what I bid. I got a good deal and he sold his quad without having to relist it so it was a win for both of us.
I like how their carfax info says no accidents, yet there is a very obvious scuff and missing paint on the left rear cladding/bumper. Just goes to show how accurate carfax is-
If the damage was never fixed, Carfax wouldn't know about it. They don't send people door to door to check the cars out. We recently bought a use Ford Fusion and the Carfax was very complete. It included not only the obvious things like title changes, but the lesser, but equally important things like every time it was at the dealership for an oil change.
I bought a local car off ebay.No drama. It was at a dealership. I went and drove it before bidding.Did a carfax and it had some hits.Carfax is a joke. All that showed up were emissions tests. No problem. After getting it home I went over it.Car was wrecked hard in the left front. It was hit hard enough it would have been totaled if it didn't happen when it was new.Buyer beware. Not all shops report claims on vehicles.
Most dealerships no longer use CARFAX...it's just become too expensive. EBAY also does not use them...their checks are EXPERIAN Auto Check. Essentially the same info...lots less expensive. As with any data system...GIGO...Garbage In...Garbage Out.
These companies glean their info from public records and companies that report to them. So...if there was an accident...but...no police report or insurance claim...there would be no entry in the system.
I've bought several vehicles off ebay most were close enough I could check out before bidding. One was offerred free (divorce), one I got for $1 (only bidder). If you can go see the vehicle, call or ask seller questions.
Car Fax does not know about unreported incidents. My son bought a 2000 Grand Marq with no accidents on car fax. After he hit a deer previous damage was evident.
