ebay bidding?

My van originally was on E-bay.
There was enough info in the ad that I was able to ascertain the sellers contact info.
I made direct contact and offered to buy it outright.
He made me a counter offer and said I could take that price or he would take a chance of receiving less at auction.
I felt that the auction price would exceed his asking price so I accepted his offer.
As we had agreed on the price I flew to Pa. and handed him a cashiers check after I had examined the vehicle.
I was so certain of the deal being completed that I had brought a license plate issued for it with me from home.
