I am looking for suggestions for a small boat that I can fit in the back of my truck maybe 8-10' feet long with the ability to mount a trolling motor. I will be using it for my night catfishing excursions in some small ponds and private lakes that don't have boat ramps. Needs to be more stable then a canoe. I am not looking to spend a bunch of money either. thanks for any suggestions!!
yeah,I had a small 10 foot jon boat about 10 years ago but had some financial problems thanks to a divorce, had to sell the truck,so no way to transport the boat,so sold it also. I have never saw a small jon boat like that for sale around here since then. I still kick myself for selling that boat. I am sure they still sell them new,but I really don't want to spend that much money on one.
I really liked my 2 man bass barge. It was very stable easy to load in my truck & moved well with a small trolling motor. I caught more fish in this boat than any boat I ever had.

Amen to this!..........I have caught FAR more fish from small "car topper" boats than all the bigger fancy boats I have owned put together.
In a small boat you spend more time actually FISHING than playing with gadgets, and blasting around the lake.
I'd still have my barge if its hull had not cracked. It still floated but it got heavy when it filled with water & ran my battery down. I got 20 years of service from a $250 boat. It was a good deal. I've had so many fish on a stringer tied to that little boat that it ran sideways.Dave your right. I fished in that boat. I had spots near every place I put it on the lake. I seldom traveled a 1/2 mile from the landing. People drive past good fishing spots because they are close to the boat ramp.

I have one of those, kind of a dual haul design with two chairs on the deck. I think mine is a bass tracker. Nice and stable pond hopper, but its been in lake erie before when its calm (not far off shore). The john boats are a bit more utilitarian and durable so that may still be a preferred route.
