MYSTERY WIRE

Just had a look under the hood today and found a black wire with purple trace sticking out (broken) from the passenger side under the wiring cowl near the heater. All electrical in the truck seems to be functioning. Would like to id this thing before ripping into the wiring harness. Thoughts?

The only AM electrical equipment under the hood is a NuStart remote starter/alarm combo. I checked the functions on this and they both worked. I cannot find a black/violet wire in any of the Ford wiring diagrams I have look at.

If you have been driving it and haven't encountered any problems....don't try to fix something that ain't broke!! Sound ok?

I'll look at one at one tomorrow at work, but if everything works okay, I might not worry about it. Does it look like part of the factory harness?

Yes it looks like part of the harness. It seems to be embedded into the black plastic cowl under the heater vents and above the turbo. There is a major group of wires running under there? I have been hesitant to rip it apart with the cold weather (being in Kingston). My luck I will break the plastic. Thanks for taking a look!

I would cap off the end and put a note in the owners manual for future reference if any gremlins should pop up. If you're having no problems, don't go cutting into a harness for no apparent reason.

Kingston Alberta? Never heard of it. Kingston Ontario I have heard of, but then your name should be Rob_in_Ontario.
I also wouldn't worry about it.
